] After all this time, we come to the 24th strip since continuity-reboot and an out of date reference. (Which is a shame since we're usually so timely around here.)
] Way back when I was your age, we had this show on TV called "24". It was a fast-paced action-drama set in the age of the war on terror.
] Then came The Great Writer's Strike, and all the land was covered in the darkness of millions of un-powered television screens. The greater demons of "Reality" and "Game Shows" spawned horrendous bastard offspring that rampaged the mindscape and raped souls. Many quality shows fell, and were lost to a slow death of re-runs and indefinite postponement.
] The truly bizarre happened when an entertaining yet "mature" show from "Showtime" migrated to fill a hole in CBS lineup. Despite the typical network television audiences, "Dexter" - a typically graphic show about a vigilante serial killer who moonlights as a blood-spatter analyst - did surprisingly well.
] Now, the first light of day seems to break across the darkness of television programming. Even now, there are whispers in dark caverns (and Wikipedia) that speak of the good old shows coming back again. Even now they speak of "Dexter" returning to Showtime with new episodes, "Pushing Daisies" returning to production, "Breaking Bad" being given the sparsely detailed "will be renewed for a second season", and - yes - "24" returning in late November.
] It seems that soon the smoke will clear, and the republic will rise from the ashes, and you'll be able to watch television without hanging your head in shame. ...Not as much, anyway.
] And as a bonus, this strip will have context once again.
